KUALA LUMPUR: Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik Malaysia’s top badminton men’s doubles delivered Malaysia’s first medal at the Tokyo Olympics with a bronze after defeating Indonesia’s Muhammad Ahsan-Hendra Setiawan with 17-21, 21-17, 21-14. The world number 9 pair were the sole survivors in the badminton game after every other shuttler lost in the group division.

Despite losing their first set, the duo manages to climb their way back by leading the second set with 21-17. In the final set, they manage to lead before the Indonesia pair catches up to 16-12 and the duo closes the set with a clinical smash.

This win guaranteed that the Malaysian badminton team continues to deliver a medal at the Olympic games since its debut during the 1992 Barcelona Olympics. To date, badminton has delivered 10 medals at the Olympics including the bronze won by the duo. – MalayMail
