MUMBAI : Raj Kundra was arrested along with 11 other people as the businessman was claimed by the police to have made money by taking subscription fees from users of apps where pornographic materials were uploaded.

The Mumbai court had on Tuesday sent the businessman to police custody until July 23 for the alleged creation of pornographic films and publishing them through certain applications. The businessman is claimed by the Mumbai Police crime branch to have made financial gains through the illegal business by earning subscription fees from the users of these applications.

There is evidence of several Whatsapp chats which revealed that Kundra was involved in the financial dealings of the application and its contents. As the key conspirator who was named by the police, in this case, he was charged under sections 420 (cheating), 34 (common intention), 292 and 293 (related to obscene and indecent advertisements and displays) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) besides relevant sections of the IT Act and the Indecent Representation of Women (Prohibition) Act.

Three women have come forward with complaints that they were “forced to act in pornographic” movies and that the accused took advantage of struggling models, actors and other workers. This is the second case that Kundra faces in connection with the alleged creation of pornographic content. Last month, he had applied for anticipatory bail in connection with a case registered earlier by the Maharashtra cyber police in 2020. The cyber police had also alleged that Kundra was involved in showcasing pornographic content. The session court is yet to hear the anticipatory bail plea. – HINDUSTAN TIMES
