Tokyo Olympics 2020 closure not ruled out due to Covid-19 hike

TOKYO: The hike in the detection of coronavirus cases have introduced the organisers to multiple obstacles. In the last 24 hours, an additional 10 covid positive cases were reported bringing the total number of people affected to 68.

When Toshiro Muto was questioned whether the upcoming Tokyo 2020 opening might be cancelled, he announced that he would oversee the infection numbers and if necessary, a discussion would be held with organisers.

This year Olympics would be a memorable one if held as it will be held without spectators due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Japan has decided that athletes will be competing in empty venues to minimise the risk of further infections rates.

The scheduled opening ceremony this Friday would take place without major Olympic sponsors after dealing with yet another blow as more athletes were tested positive for the coronavirus.-SKYSPORTS
