KUALA LUMPUR: MeDKAD Sdn Bhd (MeDKAD) has announced that the first Malaysian made Covid-19 rapid antigen self-testing kit will be available to the public from July 19. The kit would be able to detect the presence of SARS-CoV-2 antigen in the human body via the saliva and anterior nasal swab specimens.
The test will take approximately 10 to 15 minutes and the result will be shown by the visible lines which will confirm the presence of the antigen.
If the SARS-CoV-2 antigen is present in the specimen, it will be indicated by a pink-purplish line at the test region. If the specimen is free from SARS-CoV-2 antigen, there will be no indicator at the test region hence no colour will appear which means that it is negative. However, as a procedural control, the appearance of coloured lines in the control region would confirm a proper flow of the specimen regardless of the presence or absence of the SARS-CoV-2 antigen.
The sensitivity of this kit was tested with a total of 242 saliva or nasal swab samples and the results have shown that the sensitivity was 91.23% and the accuracy is at 100%. – BERNAMA
