Prospective badminton stars of the future were on display at the Negeri Sembilan Chinese Recreation Club in Seremban this weekend, all vying for a position to attend the scholastic titles this Monday in Mantin and the upcoming National titles next month.
Hundreds and hundreds of shuttlecocks were served, smashed and lobbed around the courts as trialists in age divisions battled against each other for a lucrative position on the team.
Coach Siow was impressed by the committment and effort of the boys and girls who also practised technique, court position and stroke play on the spare courts, including having matches with one team of three players against another with two.
"This helps them think creatively and find new ways and angles to win the point," explained one avid parent as his son ran side to side across the court as teammates lobbed shuttlecocks with their hands that he promptly smashed with aplomb.
It is a busy time for the young badminton players with many competitions on the calendars as Malaysia seeks to become a powerhouse in the sport again, so stay tuned for results as they happen.
