PUTRAJAYA: The tourism bubble approach will be implemented by the Tourism, Arts and Culture Ministry (MOTAC) within the country’s major tourist destinations, except Langkawi. Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri has shared that the approach is for locations such as resort islands where it is easier to control and manage tourists movement.
This move was made based on three main aspects of consideration namely the health and safety of the people; the people’s economic and business continuity; as well as for the people’s well-being.
MOTAC welcomed the statement made by Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin whereby the government is examining the views and feedback of stakeholders on plans to make Langkawi a pilot project as a tourism bubble destination.
It was further shared that the Health Ministry and health experts have recommended for the pilot project to be implemented only when 80% of the total population of Langkawi has completed the full vaccine regime.
Langkawi is expected to achieve herd immunity by end of this month as the population on the island who have received both doses of the vaccine is at 88,137. Only individuals who have completed their vaccine regime is allowed to travel to Langkawi. -BERNAMA
