Mat Sabu says suicide among Muslims shows a dire situation

KUALA LUMPUR: Pakatan Harapan MP, Mohamad Sabu, told Dewan Rakyat that the rising suicide rate among Malay-Muslims shows how burning the situation in the country is, adding that this was never heard of when he was growing up.

Currently, Malay Muslims are committing suicide and could potentially surpass other races in terms of suicide rate.

Although statistic were not provided or cited when delivering his statement, the act of suicide is strictly forbidden or prohibited in Islam as well as most other religions.

Sabu added that this has clearly shown that the population are panicking and although people who seek power and implement an Emergency, it has only brought about failure.

The fact that people were suffering and some were “losing their minds” is not something that should be taken lightly.

Police have reported that last month there was an average of four suicide cases every day during the first three months of the year and 336 was reported. Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah stated that the number for the three months was more than half of what was reported throughout 2020.

The former defence minister also hit out at the seemingly ‘perceived immunity’ that ministers of Malaysia seem to enjoy by noting that the UK health secretary Matt Hancock resigned for breaching social distancing rules.

“But here, you mention Spanish fly, nothing happens,” he said referring to health minister Dr Adham Baba’s recent gaffe. “Because in Malaysia, the minister’s here can do anything and the people suffer.” – FMT
