Covid cluster emerges after thanksgiving prayers


KOTA KINABALU: The Kampung Pukak Covid-19 cluster in Tuaran is believed to have been triggered by a thanksgiving prayer gathering which has led to 17 infections to date.

Sabah Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Masidi Manjun have stated that the ceremony was held on July 3 in the village soon after a 47 year old man tested positive on July 9.

Subsequently, 55 close contacts were identified and screened which lead to 16 testing positive, including the nine new cases on Tuesday. 

The screening test involved close contacts from Kampung Pukak, Kampung Pinagon and Telibong 1 Water Treatment Plant Quarters.

Manjun also stated that Sabah currently recorded 657 new infections which take the total number of cases to 76,453. – BERNAMA
