CANADA: The legacy from the 1994 Victoria Commonwealth Games, capitalising at more than $20 million, continues to reverberate through the 94 Forward funds.
It has recently announced a $ 2-million commitment to establish a Cycling Canada national hub in Victoria within 2 years.
This would be the largest private funding in the 139 years of Cycling Canada history which was founded in 1882. Canada has produced some of the best cycling athletes in the world including Olympic medalists in mountain biking and on the velodrome track and impacts on road-racing like the Giro and Tour de France.
Victoria, which has a rich cycling history and a tremendous abundance of roads, trails, facilities and year-round training opportunities, is seen as an important hub in the national cycling chain.
It is the home to the nation’s most engaging and thriving cycling community. The tremendous amount of municipal support shown for sport and physical activity in the region is what drives the enhancement of this project. – TIMES COLONIST
